Hello Friends! Vicki here today to share a new project I created with Fancy Pants True Friend collection and some beautiful metal sheets from Add a Little Dazzle. Inspired by all the autumn colors of the season and my current obsession with feathers I created a garland. I hung mine inside this empty frame but I could certainly imagine it hanging on a mantel.
I’ll show you how to make these feathers using the metal sheets and Fancy Pants patterned papers. I used this free Feather Download from Fancy Pants as a Pattern. I wanted to use different sized patterns, so I printed one at 6 inches long, and one at 8 inches long, so that I was able to cut some of each.
Cut your feather out so that you have it as a pattern. Lay it down and lay the metal sheet over it. Press down with your fingers, and smooth around the edges of the feather. You’ll start to be able to see the shape of the feather.
If you have an embossing stylus that’s great, but if you don’t you can use the end of a small paintbrush, or something similar, to apply pressure around the edges of the feather. This is just so you can see where to cut.
Time to cut your feather out. This is the top side, but you will want to flip it over for the next step.
Now you are working from the back side of your feather. Using your tool, you can make defining lines on your feather. By doing this from the back, the lines will be raised up on the front when you turn it over.
Once you have your lines done and you turn your feather over, take a small piece of fine sand paper and lightly sand over the raised areas. Creating the effect you see in the photo below.
Cutting the feathers in different colors and sizes of metal sheets and in patterned papers adds interest. I also added some machine stitching. I used Fancy Pants Glittered Chipboard Alphas to add the word Fall to one of the feathers.
I really enjoyed getting to play with these metal sheets. Fancy Pants Designs and Add a little Dazzle are a great pair. I’m excited to see what the girls have to share the rest of this week. I hope you’ll be sure to stop back and check it out.
