Pinteresting: Desktop Decor

02/26/16

Pinterest can always help me when I want to do DIY for my small work desk. Getting bored with the pretty little stuff from the past décor, now I decided to decorate it with the new one. I got this picture from Pinterest and feel inspired.

My plan is I’m going to make some mood board using washi tapes and my photos, Pens holders, and cuty DIY wall or desk décor so when I’m busy those things can cheers me up and I hope I can get some ideas when I see it.

And here’s my version:

Mini Desktop Fancy Pants Designs by Evelynpy Full
For my DIY frame I created a button frame décor using some buttons from the previous collection, Happy Place, and paste it randomly to the white card stock using hot glue. You can choose white, black or any color for the frame. I chose the wood grain frame because I thought it would perfectly match with the entire desktop design. After you paste it you can choose a positive word wood veneer and paste it in the middle. I chose Fun because it can remind me that if it’s about work don’t be stressed, just enjoy and have fun with it.

Because I don’t have a large space I used the top of the frame to paste a sticky note (Attwell collection) and a flair. In case I need sticky note I can grab it quickly.

I used some washi tapes from the Attwell collection to decorate my mason jar as my pencil holder. Again I pasted a sticky note there in case I need it while I’m working.

As my mood board, I just pasted some recent photos about me, my selfie with my son, and some pretty little details photos and pasted it to the wall using washi tapes. I also pasted the tag in case I need it so I don’t have to spend much time looking for it in my scrapbook drawer.

Because I have a small desktop, I want to create a cute desktop which has double function at the same time!

Pinteresting: An Organized Canvas

01/14/16

Hi everyone!  Here we are jumping head first into a brand new year. I’m hoping for lots of fun, exciting things ahead for all of us.  It’s always a time for making resolutions and plans for things we want to work on over the next year.  One of the things I want to continue to work even harder on this upcoming year is organization.  (I’m building up to something here, I promise lol)

I started to realize that when I was looking through my Pinterest Boards for creative inspiration the other day, my sudden love for all things organized was obvious.  I found myself drawn to designs that were neat and tidy. Symmetrical designs, clean, clear straight lines.  Why fight it, I thought, lol… just roll with it.

Below is the the inspiration I was drawn too most.  I loved the clean, “organized” design, of course, but I also loved the contrast of the colors.

Vicki FP Pinterest Board Inspiration
I made a 11×17 canvas using the vibrant colors of the Happy Place collection.  Of course that Gallery wall in the photo above was a huge inspiration for the layout of my canvas.  Using the Brag Cards made this designs easy peasy!

I used my fine tip Sharpie marker to highlight the sections with photos.  Once I had the canvas painted, the pen work finished and the basics put down, it was my favorite time.  Time to add the little extras.

There are so many adorable pieces or ephemera in this collection it was hard to choose.  I also used Puffy Stickers, Diction Sticker and Flair here and there on and around the photos.

Pinterest is always a great place to let your mind wander, see what your eye is drawn to, and what inspires you creatively.

Now that the holidays have passed and hopefully things have slowed down a bit here’s to finding a little crafty time for you!

Pinteresting: Embracing Fall

10/23/15

With the leaves turning and a chill in the air, and everyone scouring Pinterest for Fall decor, cooking and crafting ideas I decided to do the same when putting together inspiration for today’s blog post. Gorgeous textures, rich colors, expected combinations, little fabric owls, pretty fall leaves… so much goodness in one place.

This is what I found:

Pinteresting Inspo

And this is my page inspired by my Pinterest mood board:

Happy Girl by Kim Watson

My page “Happy Girl”, using the True Friend collection from Fancy Pants Designs (one of my fave Fall collections ever!) was so much fun to put together. It amazes me how inspiration can come from all sorts of sources.

These were the ones I used:

  • Mixture of patterns
  • Patchwork
  • Patterned strips
  • Autumn leaves
  • Wood texture (I used cork)
  • Lots of Stitching

To jazz the patching work idea up a little I added multiple layers of True Friend papers to my patchwork squares only stitching down along one side. This left the pieces loose in places, adding super dimension to the page.

Then I layered paper strips on top of each other and machine stitched them onto the page with multiple rows of stitching. Cork hearts, buttons and fall inspired sentiments and accents added lovely interest.

Next came my photo layered with a tag, die-cut leaves, chipboard accent… the rough jute twine adds great autumn texture.

And lastly my sweet little owl made from a Fancy Pants Designs scallop bracket cork label decorated with patterned paper and sequins for eyes. I love that the sewed owls inspired me to look at unexpected supplies to create the little owl.  Fall is a deliciously fun time of year with so many opportunities to stretch yourself creatively. So use my inspiration piece or create your own & be prepared for some great results.

Thanks so much for stopping by!!

Welcome Christin!

09/03/15

Greetings Fancy Pants fans! Today we are *so excited* to announce the addition of Christin Grønnslett to our FPD Design Team! We’ve had our eye on her unique style for a long time and are thrilled that her creations will be in our blog lineup.  Please help us welcome her today with her first project!

My name is Christin Grønnslett, a 41 year old from Norway. I live with my husband and kids (8 and 6 years old) in a small town 30 minutes south of our capital, Oslo. I started scrapbooking 13 years ago after living in and traveling the US for six months, but it wasn’t until my daughter was born in 2009 that I started scrapping on a daily basis and I haven’t looked back.  I started up very clean and simple and did some colorblocking with templates and in a way I have stayed true to my style. I have always used cardstock as my base. I have never really been able to add flowers to my page, but I have grown bolder with practice. More layers of paper and more layers of different media products. My passion lies in 12×12 layouts and I love to find color products to match and  enhance the photos I want to work with and the materials I have at hand.  You will rarely see me fill an entire page with paper; I need my white space…  Words that have been used to describe my style: artsy, whimsical, fresh and colorful.

Here I am with my first project as a designer for Fancy Pants Designs. I am so excited to be sharing my layouts with you. I have been a fan of Fancy Pants Designs for a long time.

For my first layout I have found my inspiration on Pinterest. I use Pinterest every day to look for inspiration, either for sketches, product inspiration or, like here, color inspiration..  (Go HERE to be inspired by our DT and by things we think are inspiring.)

For this layout I looked for a color inspiration as a base for my background. I like to make backgrounds on white cardstock to add to the color scheme in the papers. The colors found in this pin match the Office Suite collection perfectly and gave me the inspiration to use that collection.

To make the background I used a watercolor paper and using a waterbrush I mixed Ecoline liquid watercolors together with different brands of mists to get the color combination.

Pinteresting: Summer Plants

08/20/15

Good morning Fancy Pants friends.  It is so very easy to be inspired from so many things on Pinterest.  I have a board for everything!  I have a specific board for things that inspire me but don’t fit in any other category.  Do you follow Fancy Pants on Pinterest?  Go HERE to be inspired by our DT and by things we think are inspiring.

I found this amazing picture, rich in color and with the perfect aesthetic.  When seeing the colors I knew exactly what I wanted to capture as a memory: my front porch plants.  They are rich in color and beauty.  This is the first year I purchased plants in colors that I loved and did not worry about them matching my red house!
Pin 2
I also found inspiration off of this pin.  I loved the way the words wrapped and even went upside down!  Originally, I thought my title may be larger but I think it is perfect, confined in the small dark blue square.
Pin 1
Summer-Plants
You can see that I went back through my large Fancy Pants stash and found colorful pieces that matched my color scheme.  Whatever pieces slightly went, I grabbed!  I used so many different collections.  It is funny how they all can blend and match together.

I hope that you can find inspiration on Pinterest or anywhere to spark your creativity.  See you again real soon!

Pinteresting: 3D Background

06/08/15

Hi there Fancy Pants Designs friends. I’ve got a very Pinteresting design to share with you today.

Whenever I find myself in a design rut I often turn to Pinterest to spark an idea.  Recently I discovered this really cool image in the Design category and really wanted to try it out on a scrapbook page using the Flutter Collection.

Image 0 FPblog

I chose to focus on the design portion of the idea and not the colour scheme.  Here is the final result.

Image 5 FPblog

To re-create this design on your own simply follow these easy steps.

1. Gather:

– your favourite sheet of patterned paper from the Flutter Collection
– some 3D foam adhesive
– a distress ink pad
– a distress tool

Image 1 FPblog

2. Cut out 14 squares.

– I used my Recollections 1 and 3/4 square inch punch but of course a standard paper trimmer, or Silhouette, would work well also.

3. Use a blending tool to add a little distress ink to all 4 sides of each square.

– this will help to add some definition to them once you stick them on the page.

Image2 FPblog
4. Align the squares into four rows.  Making the bottom row and third row up three squares each, and the second and fourth row up four squares each.

5. Starting on the far left of the bottom row add 3D foam adhesive to the right side of square #1. Do the same for square #3.  For the centre square add the 3D foam adhesive to the left hand side of the square.  Repeat these same steps for the second row, except this time place the 3D foam adhesive on the opposite side for the first and third squares.  You will know you have the pattern correct when the sides of two side by side squares are touching.  The sides that touch will either both be popped up or both be laying flat.

Image 3 FP blog

Because I wanted my 4×4 photo to overlap the top row of squares I did not use any 3D foam adhesive on the last two squares in the row.

Image 4 FBblog

I added a few coordinating elements from the collection to dress up my page, typed out some journaling, and voila: a Pinterest discovered idea has helped me to bust out of my creative rut.

It’s amazing what we can accomplish when we look around and let ourselves be inspired by the creative world around us.
