Sometimes when we are having a little creative block when starting a layout, taking it back to basics might just be just the thing to do. Basic Shapes that is. Today I’m focusing on “Squares” for my layout, and I’m using the beautiful “Millie & June” collection.

Okay, off to a good start with a square 12×12 piece of paper for my background. LOL, that was easy.
😊   I decided, since my large photo was my focus, I’d make it square and work it into my basic “squares” design. Four equal sized squares created my basic layout design. I used a little pink mist on my background piece before starting to lay down my photo and squares and also added two strips of the beautiful washi tapes from this collection.

The top right square was used for my title, the bottom left square for my journaling. The bottom right square in the design was the perfect place for my photo strip. Again working “squares” into my layout by making a photo strip using smaller square photos.

I love the Puffy Design Stickers. The words I chose for my title fit perfectly inside the square. Yes!

I finished up the details for my layout using some of the fun pieces from the Millie & June Ephemera Pack.

I was really into the splashes of gold on my page and wanted to continue that by using the gold striped paper and the gold flair. There are so many great elements in this collection it made it really easy to pull this layout together. Although I used squares as my basic design, of course I added some other shapes, but I’m happy with the way it all came together.

My niece Neely is so dear to me. She’s  like the daughter I didn’t have since I have boys.😉  I’m so glad I now have this layout to document a bit of our relationship and how special she is to me.

If you’re in a bit of a design slump when starting your layout try basics shapes as a kick start.  You might be surprised just how easy it is to build from.

Thanks so much for stopping by. Be sure to check back to see how the other girls work basic shapes into their creations all this week.
