Hello, friends, and Happy Halloween! My children are past the age of dressing up and trick or treating, but I do still get them a few treats. I will probably have a glass of wine or cider, sit on my front porch, and pass out candy. It’s so great to see the little children in their costumes.
In keeping with the Tricks & Treats week, I am sharing with you a trick on how to use up your 12×12 paper and turning it into an accordion rosette flower banner! Plus it is a great trick or way to use up that pattern paper that you may or may not be hoarding.
First let’s grab some supplies! Pick out your color palette. Since it’s autumn I chose a yellow, black, orange and pink color scheme. I scoured through a bunch of different Fancy Pants Designs paper collections and I was able to quickly find paper that coordinated well!! Then grab a scoring tool, scissors, red line tape, a hot glue gun or Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L Dodz XL, foam tape, string, a circle die or circle punch.
With all of these great supplies I will show you how to make different sized rosette flowers to create this banner.
For this flower, I used 2 sheets of pattern paper. I trimmed each piece 5×12 inches (so you will have 4 pieces, 2 from each sheet of paper), and scored the paper every 1/2 inch. The paper is then folded top over bottom to create a “v” pattern. Each sheet is adhered to the next until you have a circle formed. You will want to push the outside pieces together, so that you have a tiny circle in the middle. I placed a Dodz XL on each side to hold the accordion flower in place, and then adhered a die cut circle on the side that will face out, and corrugated card stock on the back side.
This will create an 11 inch circle.
Follow the same instruction as above.
Except you will only need 1 sheet of 12×12 inch pattern paper, and you will cut 4 peices that measure 3×12 inches.
Follow the same instructions as above.
Except you will only need 1 sheet of 12×12 pattern paper, and you will cut 3 pieces that measure 4×12 inches, and score each sheet at 1/4 inch.
For the smallest rosette, I used two 2×12 inch pieces of pattern paper, and scored at 1/2 inch. I then placed flair in the center of those flowers.
This is a project that is a little time consuming, however the end result is so pretty. I was able to use supplies on hand and create something decorative and festive for my living room!
